In April of 2003, Ric Silver produced a 22-count line dance called The Electric (aka Electric Slide), which he claims to have choreographed in 1976. THE 18-COUNT "ELECTRIC SLIDE" IS THE WAY PEOPLE DO THIS DANCE AT PARTIES. THIS IS NOT AN INCORRECT VERSION OF "THE ELECTRIC". IT IS AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT DANCE, WHICH HAPPENS TO HAVE A SIMILAR TITLE AND SIMILAR STEPS. THE DANCE IS DONE TO MARCIA GRIFFITHS "ELECTRIC BOOGIE" WHICH SHE RECORDED WITH BUNNY WAILER IN 1982 IN JAMAICA. THE SONG DID NOT RECEIVE AIR PLAY IN THE UNITED STATES UNTIL 1989 AT WHICH POINT THE SONG BECAME POPULAR. THE ABOVE CHOROGRAPHY IS THE ACCURATE DESCRIPTION OF THE "ELECTRIC SLIDE" AS IT IS DONE IN THE PHILADELPHIA AREA.
You can follow this link for Ric Silver's "The Electric" which he claims he choreographed in 1976.
